FlowTiss
Macrofluidic Flow Chamber for Cell and Tissue Experiments under Physiological Shear Stress
The chamber is not only innovative but also reusable. It enables both cultured cells and intact human tissue to be exposed to defined shear stress conditions. Unlike traditional microfluidic systems, the chamber from FlowCellInnovations provides enough space for native tissue explants and high cell numbers, enabling complex downstream analyses and significantly increasing scientific output.
Technical Features:
Two modes of use:
a) Seeding of cells on a reusable 2×2 cm glass coverslip
b) Fixation of tissue within an integrated slit, enabling targeted exposure to flow
Uniform shear force distribution across the entire sample
Equipped with an openable design for easy cell seeding and harvesting
Chemically inert Teflon body: no adsorption or interference with medium or test substances
Post-experiment separation of flow-exposed tissue from fixed necrotic tissue for precise analysis
Up to 10× higher cell capacity compared to standard chambers
Reusable design, resource-efficient, and compliant with Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD)
principles
Applications:
Placental research (e.g., trophoblast morphology, metabolism, omics studies)
Drug screening and toxicity testing
Tissue and cell studies for intestine, kidney, skin and lung in a monolayer
Shear stress-related research in oncology, cardiology, reproductive medicine
